USING A POWERED POLE PRUNER
This is a 1 day integrated training and assessed LANTRA course. You should have evidence of having achieved NPTC Unit 201 Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cutting to be able to complete this course in 1 day.
If you do not have this qualification, the course can be delivered over 2 days. Please contact us to discuss this option.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is suitable for you if you work in one of the following industries: Forestry, Arboriculture, Agriculture, Horticulture, Woodland, Local Authorities, Conservation, Construction, Land-based.
Depending on access and height above the ground a powered pole pruner provides a better solution than tree climbing.
Powered pole pruners are useful pieces of equipment and are used extensively across many sectors.
Our qualification will help you build on the skills and experience you already possess and on successful completion of the course you will receive a LANTRA Certificate of Competence in Using a Powered Pole Pruner.
Course sessions:
- HSE legislation and safety guidelines
- Safety features of a powered pole pruner
- Maintaining the powered pole pruner chain
- Maintaining the guide bar
- Engine maintenance
- Starting the pruning saw and pre-cut checks
- Clear and tidy working area and pruning saw checks.
The Assessment for this course is internal and carried out on the day. It leads to a LANTRA LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE IN USING A POWERED POLE PRUNER
LANTRA INTEGRATED TRAINING & ASSESMENT OF POWERED POLE PRUNERS (OPERATION & MAINTENANCE)
You will be expected to show proficiency in the following:
- Produce a site specific risk assessment for pole pruner operations.
- State the principles of HSE legislation and safety guidelines for using a powered pole pruner.
- Select the appropriate PPE and state the maintenance requirements.
- Carry out operator checks and identify the safety features of a powered pole pruner.
- Carry out pole pruner operations.
- Carry out routine operator maintenance.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
- Clothing-to suit weather conditions with high flexibility.
- Chainsaw Combination Helmet (EN 397 or EN 12492)
- Chainsaw Trousers (EN 380-5. Minimum protection Type A-Class 1-20m/s) (Get Type C if you intend to progress to Chainsaw from Rope & Harness) Desirable. As a minimum, strong work trousers.
- Gloves appropriate to the task
- Chainsaw Protective Boots (BS EN ISO 20345: 2004-EN 381-3) Desirable. As a minimum, steel toe capped work boots.
- Personal first aid kit, including a large wound dressing.
PPE must be CE Marked with chainsaw logo, where applicable, in good condition and undamaged.
