BASIC CHAINSAW, FELL & PROCESS SMALL TREES, CITY & GUILDS NPTC ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
THE ASSESMENT IS BASED ON CITY & GUILDS NPTC 201 & 202 MODULES
Unit 201

Carry out Maintenance of Chainsaw and Cutting System

• Be able to work safely.
• Be able to carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system.
• Be able to carry out operational chainsaw checks.
• Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice.
• Know how to carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system.

Cross-cut Timber Using a Chainsaw

• Be able to work safely.
• Be able to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw.
• Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice.
• Know how to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw.

Unit 202

Fell & Process Trees Using a Chainsaw

• Be able to work safely.
• Be able to fell and process trees up to 380mm.
• Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice.
• Know how to fell and process trees up to 380mm.
• Know how to remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw.
• Know how to take down hung-up trees

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

• Clothing-to suit weather conditions with high flexibility.
• Chainsaw Combination Helmet (EN 397 or EN 12492)
• Chainsaw Trousers (EN 380-5. Minimum protection Type A-Class 1-20m/s) (Get Type C if you intend to progress to Chainsaw from Rope & Harness)
• Gloves appropriate to the task
• Chainsaw Protective Boots (BS EN ISO 20345: 2004-EN 381-3)

• Personal first aid kit, including a large wound dressing.
• Please bring insect repellent

PPE must be CE Marked with chainsaw logo, in good condition and undamaged.
